One of New England’s most revered spots and Boston’s greatest shrine, Fenway Park is home to the Boston Red Sox and is the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball.
Built in 1912, the hallowed ground of Fenway Park is the place where the Babe pitched, The Kid hit and Yaz dazzled the fans. Fenway Park is an iconic ground, billed as America’s Most Beloved Ballpark and the Red Sox are one of baseball’s most successful teams winning the World Series six times, most recently in 2004 following an 86 year dry patch.
Fenway Park indeed hold sa special place in Baseballing folklore as the place where legendary hitter, Babe Ruth made his name before he was sold to rivals the New York Yankees. This sparked that 86-year streak of bad luck, known in Baseball as ‘the curse of the Bambino’. Indeed the rivalry between the Red Sox and the Yankees is a legend in itself and is the fiercest in any American sport – people have been known to be thrown out of bars for saying the wrong thing in the wrong place!
Fenway Park is full of sporting history and official tours take you behind the scenes to soak it all up. You visit the new State Street Pavilion, touch the score-board known as the Green Monster and take first base at Fenway Park.
The Official Red Sox Team Store directly across Fenway Park sell souvenirs and sports wear for all the family – just don’t ask for a New York Yankees cap!
