Shopping in Boston

shoppingbanner.jpgFrom boutiques to big names, Boston is a shoppers’ paradise with style to rival New York and bargains galore.

When it comes to shopping Boston may not have the iconic Madison and 5th Avenues of New York, but it has all the same stores and designer brands and Boston benefits from much lower sales tax (VAT) than New York meaning more bargains for your bucks.

Boston’s main shopping district is the Back Bay where the city’s two big shopping malls, Copley Place and the Prudential Centre have over 200 stores between them and as the two are joined together, you can splash the cash without having to venture outdoors.

Copley Place on Copley Square features more than 100 designer stores including Neiman Marcus, Tiffany & Co., Gucci and Williams-Sonoma, while at the Prudential Centre on Boylston Street you’ll find an equally fabulous selection of exclusive shops such as Saks Fifth Avenue, Lord & Taylor, Ann Taylor, Swarovski and many more.

Also in the Back Bay is Newbury Street, renowned as the Rodeo Drive of East Coast America. Here you’ll find designer names like Gucci, Armani, Cartier and Chanel, along with outdoor eateries that are perfect for al fresco dining, post-shopping cocktails and people watching.

Quincy Market is a famous Boston landmark and another must for shoppers, who’ll love ambling around its colourful stalls, of jewelry emporia, chic designer boutiques and a temping array of stalls offering snacks from pretzels and hotdogs to French pastries and Italian sausage subs.

If you’re on a bargain hunt, head Downtown to Filene’s Basement, the world’s most celebrated bargain store. Here you’ll find a cut-price goldmine of designer seconds, business wear and household goods, marked down again and again until they’re sold. Opposite is Filene’s New York based rival Macy’s and the competitive pricing between the two means more excellent bargains for shoppers.

Outside the city you can find further bargains in the ‘burbs at the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets with marked down prices on top brand names like Gap, Ralph Lauren, Nike, Burberry, Guess and Liz Claiborne.

With Boston’s shops offering such great bargains the only thing you have to worry about is how you’ll get everything home!
