With reproductions of over 40 historic buildings, the Strawbery Banke
Museum outlines the story behind the New England seaport of Portsmouth.
Set on 10 acres in the South End of Portsmouth, the Strawbery Banke
Museum is a living history museum recreating life in Portsmouth from
its first Strawbery Banke colony in the 17th century, to the days of
the sea captains and merchants in the 18th century and the
industrialists of the 19th century.
Costumed guides inhabit each of the 40 buildings giving visitors an
insight into the lives and traditional crafts of the past and visitors
can even rub shoulders with the likes of George Washington, Paul
Revere, John Hancock and Abraham Lincoln who have all passed through
Strawbery Banke.
The Strawbery Banke Museum hosts a range of family events throughout
the year from historic re-enactments and Independence Day celebrations
on July 4th to harvest festivals in September, spooky ghost walks in
October and candlelit strolls in December exploring mid winter
traditions past and present.
